Roy Vega,
M.D.
Emergency
pediatrics at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (BLHC) - Concourse division
involves an exciting blend of general and subspecialty pediatric medicine.
Currently we have about 40.000 annual visits.
Residents
have primary responsibility for patient care and are supervised by the on
site attendings. Procedural skills and knowledge as well as other
competencies are achieved through bedside teaching and case discussions, as
well as by observing senior residents and attendings. Textbooks and relevant
internet websites are easily accessible. EBM approach is strongly
encouraged. Specific to this rotation is resuscitation skills training
through “mock codes” and state of the art simulation lab (sim-baby).
Residents will attend Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) course on
arrival and renewal when due.
During the
rotation, residents will become familiar with hospital support system,
regulatory issues, health policies and procedures and will participate in
quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
The
evaluation of residents’ performance on six competencies will be evident as
immediate feedback from the preceptor and as a comprehensive written
evaluation at the end of the rotation
Residents will get the feedback on their performance during daily
interactions as well as through formal evaluations once per rotation. They
are evaluated by the whole group of the ER attendings on competencies
recommended by ACGME.
Primary goals for the rotation:
